In what ways does your media text product use, develop or challange forms and conventions of real media products?

Here are nine screen shots from horror trailers which I have looked at,which have had some kind of influence on our groups trailer, and  there are nine screen shots from our group's horror trailers. Click on the image to take you to Flickr and over the mouse over each image to enable you to read my annotations.

I think in our teaser trailer it is quite clear who the antagonist is. We do see the character on some occasions clearly, however, like alot of conventional horror teaser trailers, they are quick and we don't always see the character in full. Alot of the shots are done conventionally as well. High angled shots show fear, and that possibly it is something daunting or intimidating. Typically, red is used alot as well because it connotes blood, death and danger. Shots are also quite dark, using both natural and un natural low lighting to create an dark and mysterious atmosphere. Extream close ups don't allow the audience to see what is fully happening which is something that is used to keep the audience scared, the unknown keeps them watching.

  1. Your notes are not finished on the second Flickr image. FINISH THEM! Also - make use of your material on the horror genre (eg the big A3 sheet) to ensure that you explore further specific conventions.

In addition to this though you also need to think more about the product AS A TEASER TRAILER. What elements of the narrative did you withhold and what elements did you decide to reveal? Why? Do you enable identification with a protagonist enough? How did you use intertitles to generate that feeling of being carried along and into the story? How did you use sound to generate a feeling of buildup etc etc You can write this stuff directly into the blog post - no need for more stills.
